A Cynical take on problem gambling Published March 14, 2007
Re: Protecting our kids from gambling addictions?, The Standard, March 3, 2007.
Obviously, this editorial (Protecting our kids from gambling addictions) was not considering the long-term benefits to raising a generation of gambling addicts.
You claim "these are our children at risk and it's incumbent on society to offer protection." But is it not also incumbent on our governments to insure the ongoing sustainability of our economies?
Maintaining our children's gambling addictions can only help to maintain a healthy Gross Domestic Product. It will help our casinos remain the vibrant and exciting places that they have become.
And since these kids are probably using someone else's money, doesn't that mean their addictions are helping to create systems of wealth redistribution?
Obviously the Standard has not considered how these children will soon become parents, future employees or employers, so don't overlook potential benefits for the LCBO, the legal and justice systems, and social services. No. Wait. On second thought social services are a waste of our taxes. We can't have that, now can we?

Progress will render incineration not viable Published May 03, 2007
Within the next 5 years waste incineration will no longer be a viable option for the Niagara Region. As well, demands on landfills will be reduced significantly.
Here is but a few reasons why:
Current waste generation and management¶§ are forcing communities into fee for service policies
New materials will make recycling economically viable¶Δ
Product packaging will be minimal and biodegradable¶Δ
An entire building industry will be recycling and reusing materials¶§Δ
Above-ground resource industries will be extracting, separating and processing raw materials¶§
Take-back¶§ policies will force manufacturers to reclaim their used products
Finally, international initiatives collectively working toward zero-waste¶§Δ generation will foster technological and logistical innovation and invention
